Dual exhibition about the historic district of Athens "#NeapolisAthina: Both now and then" (October 18 - December 16, 2017)
To celebrate its 60 years of uninterrupted service to the community, and in following up on its initiative to rescue Neapolis as the cultural center of Athens, the Hellenic American Union is presenting a series of commemorative events, in which the romantic past coexists with the creative present of the district. The tribute series of events begins with the double exhibition “#NeapolisAthina: both now and then”, curated by the art historian Louisa Karapidaki. A rich collection of photographic and archival material, sourced from public and private archives and institutions, sheds light on the past of Neapolis, while the collective visual arts exhibition of 31 contemporary artists, who reside in or are otherwise affiliated with the area, serves to highlight the district's cultural present.
The visual arts exhibition features works by: Elena Akyla, Antonios, Christiana Garofalidou, Christos Theofilis, Markos Kampanis, Nikos Kaskouras, Kyriakos Katzourakis, Theodora Kokkinou, Andreas Kontellis, Vassiliki Koskiniotou, Alexis Kyritsopoulos, Christos Markidis , Kostis Moudatsos, Niki Bisylla, Giorgos Bournazakis, Anastasia Briskola, Yorgis Noukakis, Myrto Xanthopoulou, Alexia Othonaiou, Maria Oikonomou, Alexandra Patsoglou, Aristide Patsoglou, Hara Piperidou, Daphne Rocou, Angela Svoronou, Vera Siaterli, Kostas Siafakas, Sofia Simaki, Angelos Spartalis, Elias Harissis and George Hatzieleftheriou Kordonis.
