Alumni talk on “The Relationship Between Sexuality and Pornography”

Alumni talk on “The Relationship Between Sexuality and Pornography”

On Tuesday, February 25th, Georgios Baniokos (MSPsy '15), mental health counselor and psychoanalyst, and Dimitra Tsikni (MSPsy '14), licensed psychologist, both Hellenic American University alumni, will talk on “The Relationship Between Sexuality and Pornography”.

The presenters have provided us the following description of their talk:

“Sexuality is a core element of our existence. It expresses our desire for pleasure and profound connection with others. Pornography, for its part, is not new; hundreds of generations have grown up watching erotic images. In postmodern societies, however, every kind of pornographic material is available through the internet and is forming more decisively than ever the sexuality of individuals.

A preoccupation with pornography seems to have several implications. It affects the psyche, the understanding and manifestation of sexual behavior, sexual hygiene, our body image and the way gender relationships are formed. Both sexuality and pornography have individual and social dimensions that can be examined through the perspective of psychology, philosophy, biology, social sciences and politics. In this event, we will approach the relationship between sexuality and pornography by focusing on the psychological and philosophical perspectives.”

The event is organized by the Psychology Department of Hellenic American College/Hellenic American University.
