A few words about the book:
This book has a two-fold nature: it traces the social history of the Greek art music but is also a fictional biography. The artistic works of Paolo Carrer -the first Greek opera-composer- are an excellent opportunity to shed some light on unknown aspects of the historical and cultural realities of the 19th century and help reveal a fascinating mosaic of relations, mediations and interactions (between West and East, past and present, modern and traditional) that that have culturally shaped Modern Greece.
A few words about the author:
Aura Ksepapadakou is a Lecturer in Theatrical Studies at the University of Crete School of Philosophy. Her research interests lie in the History of Theatre and Opera.
