A lecture on the Masters of Pop Art will be delivered by Mara Karetsos at the Hellenic American Union Theater, 22 Massalias Street, Athens, on September 26, 2019 at 19:30.
The colorful revolution of Pop Art changed the course of art history, and its influence is visible to this day in numerous aspects of contemporary visual arts. The prestigious Greek artist and Goodwill Ambassador Mara Karetsos is in a position to offer a unique perspective on this movement, its milestones and its leading figures, seeing as she lived the movement from within.
The lecture, held in Greek, will be accompanied by a screening of photographic material.
Mara Karetsos left her hometown of Larissa in the late 1960s to study at the Athens School of Fine Arts. While in Paris during the 1970s, she became acquainted with Alexander Iolas. Thanks to him, she staged her first exhibition on the other side of the Atlantic in 1982. Iolas was pivotal in her becoming recognized as an artist and moving forward in her career, while he also introduced her to prominent representatives of the Pop Art movement, of which he was an ardent supporter.
The event is organized by Hellenic American College/Hellenic American University in cooperation with the Hellenic American Union.
