Dr. Edward Tick to talk on “Restoration of the Soul: Using Asklepian Healing in Trauma”

Dr. Edward Tick

On Monday, December 9, Dr. Edward Tick will deliver a lecture entitled “Restoration of the Soul: Using Asklepian Healing in Trauma”, at Hellenic American College. The lecture is organized by the Psychology Department of Hellenic American College/Hellenic American University.

Dr. Tick has provided us the following description of his talk:

Western medicine and psychotherapy originated in ancient Greece over 3,300 years ago using holistic methodologies combined with dream questing under the guidance of Asklepios, the god of healing. It resulted in thousand of “miracle cures” to otherwise intractable conditions of body, mind, heart and spirit. This practice, used throughout the Mediterranean world for 2,000 years, is a foundation of archetypal psychology and available to us today.

The ancients taught that all our ailments derive from the soul and the key to healing is restoration of the soul. This is especially true of trauma in which the violence penetrates the soul and shatters its Logos. The practice of dream healing is especially effective in restoring the inner logos by enabling catharsis, transforming identity, providing life guidance, revealing Moira, reconnecting to the sacred and providing direct healing or prescriptions for healing through the facilitation of “big dreams”.

During the talk, participants will explore soul medicine, the myth of Asklepios, dream pilgrimages and incubation, replication of ancient sanctuary practices, and personal guidance for the use of dreams for trauma and holistic healing and personal transformation.
