Faculty of all Translation and Interpretation Programs and courses are experienced professionals in their fields and have the necessary academic and professional credentials to teach their subject of expertise.
Dr Themis Kaniklidou is the Director of the translation and interpreting programs at Hellenic American College & Hellenic American Κε.Δι.Βι.Μ.2. Themis is an Associate Professor in Translation Studies. She completed her Ph.D. in Media Discourse and Translation at the University of Athens where she wrote her thesis on Narrative Theory, Communication and News Translation. She also holds an M.A. in Specialized Translation from the University of Surrey (2004) and a B.A. in Translation (2002) from the Ionian University of Foreign Languages – Department of Translation and Interpreting. She has worked as a freelance and in-house translator and has translated numerous technical, financial and legal documents. Themis has been involved in various projects that link academia with the translation industry and EU institutions, such as OPTIMALE, an EU-funded program on Optimizing Professional Translator Training in a Multilingual Europe. She is leading the terminological project carried out in cooperation with TERMCOORD, the Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament. Since 2008, Themis has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Translation Studies, Terminology, EU Translation, and Language and Communication, Greek culture and ethics and western culture. She has been visiting scholar at the communications department at Rollins College, USA and a part-time lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has supervised M.A. dissertations and has been mentoring graduate and Ph.D. students. Her research interests include: communication, discourse analysis and translation.
Petros Romaios is a freelance conference interpreter and translator. He holds a BA in Conference Interpreting from the Ionian University, Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (working languages English, French, Greek), a Diploma in Bilingual Translation, Institut Français, Greece and a Translation Certificate from the University of Mons Hainaut, Belgium. He holds an MAS for Interpreting Trainers from the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
Since 2006 he has been teaching courses in Translation and Interpreting Theory, Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting and General and Specialized Translation. He is the former President and founding member of the Hellenic Association of Conference Interpreters (SYDISE), has served as accredited interpreter of the team of interpreters of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union and participated in international conferences offering interpreting services for major public and private institutions.
Ms. Messini holds the Diploma in Translation of the Institute of Linguists Educational Trust. She has 30 years of experience in lifelong education, professional training and exam preparation. Ηer freelance work includes the translation of award-winning titles of contemporary British literature. Since 2000, she has been teaching translation at the Hellenic American Center for Lifelong Learning at all levels, including the preparation of candidates for the Institute of Linguists exams. She has twice won the peer-reviewed translation contest organized by the international translators’ community proz.com in the English into Greek language combination.
Effie Avgita has a BA in Greek Language (Major in Linguistics) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and an MA in Bilingual Translation (English-Greek) from the University of Westminster, London, UK. Her working languages are English, Spanish and Greek and translates technical and scientific texts. She has been working as a professional translator since 1998 and is a member of the Association of Translators-Editors-Proofreaders (SMED) and the Pan-Hellenic Association of Translators (PEM).
Effie has been teaching translation in the Translation Department at the Hellenic-American Union, Thessaloniki, since 2004.
Vassilis Manoussakis holds a Ph.D. in American Poetry from the National and Κapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He has taught Contemporary British and American Literature, Literary Translation, Audiovisual Translation, Poetry and Creative Writing at universities and colleges in Greece and abroad. He has also served as an external tutor and supervisor in the M.A. program in Audiovisual Translation at City University, London, England. He has extensive experience as a literary translator and subtitler. He runs Lit Mag, the Creative Writing magazine of Hellenic American College/Hellenic American University and the connected Creative Writers’ Club. Currently, he is teaching Literature in the Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature (BAELL), Audiovisual Translation and literary translation in the Master of Arts in Translation (MAT) and public speaking in the Master of Arts in Conference Interpreting (MACI) programs of Hellenic American College/Hellenic American University.
He has translated more than 20 books of literature and numerous articles, essays and poems for various international and domestic magazines and journals, as well as more than 1,000 movies and series for Netflix and a great number of other major Hollywood studios. Moreover, his essays on many literary and translation topics have appeared in various magazines and journals. He writes and publishes poetry and short stories in English and Greek language. His most recent book of poetry, which is a bilingual edition titled Fragile Boundary, was published in December 2014 by Planodion editions. He has participated in many festivals and art of translation workshops and has organized many literary presentations and events. He has also curated poetry and short story issues for magazines in Greece and the United States.
Ifigeneia Roulia has been working as a freelance translator/editor/proofreader since 2010 and as a freelance interpreter since 2013. During these years, she has co-operated with Quintiles GesmbH, Concepts Ltd, Eugenides Foundation, Hellenic American Union and other companies. Moreover, she has cooperated with translation agencies both Greek, such as Erminia and Paspartu, and multinational ones, such as SDL Languages Services and Intertranslations ltd.
From 1991 to 2012 she worked as an English Language teacher for Stratigakis Group, where she held the position of Director of Studies from 2000 to 2012. Since September 2017 she has been Adjunct Faculty at Hellenic American College.
