Ellen Froustis-Vriniotis, school counselor and founder of the Center for Emerging Young Leaders, will deliver a free lecture on bullying entitled "Breaking the Bullying Cycle." The event is being organized by the Psychology Department of Hellenic American College, in cooperation with Hellenic American University (Manchester, New Hampshire, USA) and will take place on November 19th at 16:30, at 22 Massalias Street, 6th floor Conference Room.

Empirical studies on anti-bully programs in schools indicate that the whole-school approach to addressing bully attitudes is far more effective than dealing with individual cases. Changing bully attitudes means changing the culture of the school, from one of aggression and punishment to one of empathy, character building and discipline. During her lecture, Ms. Froutsis-Vriniotis will look at ways in which strength-based prevention and intervention strategies can help create a school culture of caring and inclusion, and convert bystanders into advocates, targets into defenders, and bullies into young persons who find acceptance.

Ms. Froustis-Vriotishas, who holds an M.Ed. from the University of Laverne and an M.A. in Psychology from the University of Indianapolis, has worked with adolescents for the last 12 years as both a high school counselor and psychology teacher. She initiated and leads the ACS Athens YOLO CLUB!, a community service and social action club, is the coordinator and advisor to Greece for PEACE JAM a youth global awareness and service organization inspired by the work of Nobel Laureates and is the recent founder of EIMAI: Center for Emerging Young Leaders, a youth development and leadership non-profit organization. She provides free counseling services for the Greek Adlerian Society in which she is also an Executive Board member.

The lecture will be delivered in English. Participation is free of charge.
