The Hellenic American College in cooperation with Hellenic American University (Manchester, NH, USA) invites you to attend a free lecture entitled “How Europe’s youth can shape a new European identity”, by Jack Hanning, the Secretary General of the European Association of Schools of Political Studies and former External Relations Director of Council of Europe.
Europe is currently in crisis. Nationalistic and separatist movements are rising, while governments and the political world are rather reserved towards the idea of Europe. How can Europe deal with this crisis? How can youth’s active citizenship be encouraged? How can their European identity be formed?
Jack Hanning was born in Birmingham and graduated from Malvern College and Jesus College, Oxford. He has dedicated most of his professional life promoting European unification and cultural understanding by working as a teacher, translator, and journalist. Before specialising in external and multilateral relations, he was media spokesperson to the Secretary General, Catherine Lalumière, and headed the Organisation’s Press and Public Relations Department, at the Council of Europe. He has taught at the Strasbourg University and at the University of Syracuse. Nowadays, he is also the Representative of the European Movement International in Strasbourg and President of the English Speaking Union Strasbourg.
