On November 23rd, Dr. Zhang Qing, an influential curator and scholar of contemporary Chinese art, will deliver a talk at Hellenic American College entitled "Ocean Time and Chinese Art". During his talk, Zhang will explore the connections between the arts in China and Greece, and the movement and communication of art along the Maritime Silk Road, the sea route that leads from the South China Sea through Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East into the eastern Mediterranean and Pireas.
A specialist in modern and contemporary Chinese art history and theory, Zhang Qing is head of the Curatorial and Research Department at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. For more than a decade, he was a leading figure in the Shanghai Biennale, the largest art exhibition in the country. He has curated numerous exhibitions in China and around the world, including the 10th Venice Sculpture Biennale (2007), the 7th Sao Paulo Architecture Biennale (2007) and the 15th Asian Art Biennale in Dhaka (2012).
The event is being organized by Hellenic American College (HAEC) in cooperation with Hellenic American University (Manchester, NH, USA) and will take place on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016, at 4:00 pm, in the 2nd floor Auditorium, at 22 Massalias Street, Athens.
Dr. Zhang Qing will deliver his talk in Chinese. Consecutive interpretation into Greek will be available.
