Dimitrios Kamperos, the first Greek military pilot A special tribute to the Hellenic Air Force will be hosted at the Hellenic American Union Theatre on May 8, 2017 at 19:00. The event is under the auspice of the Hellenic American College Summer 2017 Aviation Academy.

Following the publication of the book by Antigoni Kamperos on the life of Dimitrios Kamperos entitled "Δημήτριος Καμπέρος: ο Τρελοκαμπέρος, η ζωή του πρώτου Έλληνα στρατιωτικού αεροπόρου" where we read about the deeds and contribution of the Greek pioneer pilot Dimitrios Kamperos to the early years of the Air Force, invited speakers will shed light on the personalities and events which led to the conception of the aviation idea and the establishment of the Hellenic Air Force by the Prime Minister and Military Minister, Eleftherios Venizelos in 1911.

Speakers elaborate on the unique invention by the Wright brothers in the US and the sale of their rights to France as well as Greek historic events during World War I, and the subsequent evolution of the Hellenic Air Force. They further comment on the role of the Hellenic Air Force during the Balkan Wars and talk about Greece's first aviators Dimitrios Kamperos, Mihalis Moutousis, Christos Adamidis and Panoutsos Notaras as well as private aviators Emmanouil Argyropoulos and Alexandros Karamanlakis. A collection of historic videos and photos will be presented.

The event is organized by the Hellenic American College (HAEC) in cooperation with Hellenic American University (Nashua, NH, USA) and the Hellenic Aviation Society.
