Hellenic American College’s Bachelor of Music (BM) Program, in cooperation with Hellenic American University (Manchester, NH, USA), and the Greek Composers Union invite you to the concert “Music for Guitar” by Thodoros Antoniou. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 6th 2014, at 20:30, in the Auditorium of the Hellenic American Union, at 22 Massalias Street, Kolonaki.
Hellenic American College’s Bachelor of Music (BM) Program is the crowning achievement of a long-standing collaboration between guitarist Nikos Zarkos and the award-winning composer, conductor, and Professor of Composition Thodoros Antoniou. For the first time in the fifty years of Thodoros Antoniou’s work as a composer, his four pieces for solo guitar will be presented together during a recital: Stichomithia ΙΙ (1977), Souita (1994-95/2003), Fantasia in Memoriam (1996) and Sonata (2012). Sonata was composed at the request of Nikos Zarkos who performed the musical work for the first time.
Nikos Zarkos has shown a vivid interest in exploring the uncharted regions of the modern guitar repertoire and enriching the catalog of Greek works for guitar. Born in Kavala in 1981 he studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London and continued for postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg/Augsburg. His discography includes two solo CDs’: Greek Guitar Music of the 21st Century (2011) and Female Writing for Guitar (2013).
