On the occasion of the exhibition “#NeapolisAthens: Now and Then”, the City of Athens Choir, under the direction of Stavros Beris and accompanied by Frixos Mortzos at the piano, will give a concert of Greek serenades and songs of old Athens. The concert is part of the events organized this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Hellenic American Union.
Serenades were brought to Athens in 1864, when the Ionian Islands were united with Greece. At Plaka, Psirri and especially at Neapolis, this novel music genre was enriched with classical elements and played a role in the creation of music schools in the area.
The event is organized in cooperation with the Bachelor of Music Program (BM) of Hellenic American College and The City of Athens Culture, Youth and Sports Organization.
