On April 30, 2014, Dr. Anna Nikolaou will lead the next Faculty Research Seminar. Her topic is “Memory and Identity in Epirus: ethno-cultural affiliations and relationships under reconstruction on the Greek/Albanian border”.

Hellenic American College, in cooperation with the Research Institute of Hellenic American University (Manchester, NH, USA) invites you to attend a Faculty Research Seminar led by Dr. Anna Nikolaou and entitled “Memory and Identity in Epirus: ethno-cultural affiliations and relationships under reconstruction on the Greek/Albanian border” on 30th of April 2014, from 19:00 to 20:00 in the 4th Floor Conference Room at 22 Massalias Street, Athens.

The presentation explores how collective memory and local identities are linked to ethno-cultural affiliations beyond national borders. The research was conducted in the area of Kónitsa. Local people retain memories of cross-border communication before and after the borders were drawn. With the establishment of communism in Albania, the borders were sealed. Consequently, all forms of communication were violently interrupted. The study reflects on how memory and identity influence the reconstruction of trans-border ethnic relations after the collapse of communism.

The seminar will be delivered in English.

Admission is free of charge.
