6 things you can do to jump start your career during your studies

Hellenic American College event on how to jump start your career during your studies

Don't expect to finish your studies first and then look for a job. This what Ms Tina Tripsa, CEO of IPSOS, earlier this month shared with our students, and explained what they can do right now to build their CV while still studying:

  • Start working now even at a part-time entry-level position. It is important to gain work experience early. Seek internships or volunteer work as opportunities at the first stages of your career.
  • Become proficient in at least one foreign language and familiarize yourself with business terminology so that you can feel confident in communicating with colleagues or customers of other nationalities.
  • Build and cultivate a brand name for yourself. People will respect you more if you know and appreciate your professional value.
  • Be open to collaboration and teamwork. You can't, and you don't have to, do everything alone. While you are still studying, your classmates and professors can support you and the same can happen with your colleagues when you start working.
  • When you complete your studies, be flexible to relocate to another country if needed or if an opportunity arises. However, remember that flexibility is not only a personal characteristic, it also depends on your knowledge and qualifications, and they can become your international passport.
  • Follow your heart. The external environment and the labor market change but you should set and stick to your goals and do your best to achieve them.

Tina Tripsa leads the operations of IPSOS in Greece, one of the leading research companies in healthcare worldwide. It is an honor and a privilege for HAEC's Career Development Office to have experienced professionals—especially those at senior levels with decision making responsibilities—come share their knowledge and experience, and help support young people about to start their careers.
