Works of prominent representatives of Clerical Poetry will be performed during a concert dedicated to this genre, with poetry by contemporary Orthodox clergymen set to music for vocals and piano by contemporary Greek composers.
Clerical Poetry is a form of poetry written by clergymen of the Orthodox Church (high priests, priests and monks). These poems are not necessarily religious- they contain as much spirituality and religiousness as any other poem, but mostly touch upon existential issues.
Works of the most prominent representatives of Clerical Poetry will be presented during the event, such as: Archbishop of Australia Stylianos, Metropolitan Evangelos of Perges, Fr. Panagiotis Kapodistrias, monk Simeon the Peruvian, Fr. Vasileios Thermos, Metropolitan of Kozani Dionysios Psarianos, and monk Moses of Mt. Athos.
This is the first time that under the initiative of theologist and musician Panagiotis Andriopoulos, poems of clergymen are set to music by the contemporary Greek composers: Konstantia Gourzi, Leonidas Kanaris, Iakovos Konitopoulos, Alexandros Mouzas, Alkis Mpaltas, Alexandra Papastefanou, Filipos Tsalachouris and Vasiliki Filippaiou.
Works will be performed by:
- Vicky Stylianou (piano)
- Margarita Syggeniotou (mezzo soprano)
- Dafni Panourgia (soprano)
- Panagiotis Andriopoulos (recitation-vocals)
