Dr. Adrianne Kalfopoulou, faculty member in the Hellenic American College English Language and Literature program, will read from her recently published collection of essays, RUIN, Essays in Exilic Living (Red Hen Press 2014).
The event, which is hosted in cooperation with Hellenic American University, will be held on March 3, at 19:00 on the 8th floor of our building at 22 Massalias Street.
RUIN, Essays in Exilic Living speaks to crisis moments in the escalating tensions of Athens' austerity-ravaged world as it explores more personal instances of motherhood and loss. Notions of the "exilic" are defined in spaces of postmodernity from the surveillanced city of a post 9/11 New York City to a re-envisioning the "Chora" from Plato's Timaeus. As Sara Budzik notes in Foreword Reviews, "This study of exile reinvents the meaning of "home" and sheds light on how humanity defines separateness—from people, from places, from truth."
Dr. A. Kalfopoulou has been on the faculty at Hellenic American University since 2007 and has helped develop and coordinate the Language and Literature program where she teaches literature and creative writing.
The event will be delivered in English. Participation is free of charge.
