Have you ever wondered how literary translators work? What different readings may a paragraph have? Is there only one translator's find?
Translation Slam is a "duel" between two translators who compete to best embody an author's voice, before and with the participation of members of the audience, who are called upon to judge and compare the two versions. Alexis Kalofolias and Niki Prodromidou, two seasoned literary translators from English into Greek, will be examining a short story by Ursula K. Le Guin entitled "The ones who walk away from Omelas".
Under the adjudication of Cleoparta Eleotriviari, translator and vice president of the Panhellenic Association of Professional Translators Graduates of the Ionian University (PEEMPIP), this bloodless battle aims to present to the public some of the hidden aspects of the complex yet captivating "transfusion" of a literary text from one linguistic reality to another.
The event is co-organized by the PEEMPIP, the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, the Hellenic American Union and the Hellenic American College (HAEC), on Wednesday December 9, 2015, at 19:30, in the Hellenic American Union Auditorium (22 Massalias Street, Athens).
The event will be held in Greek.
