On the occasion of the Greek edition of D. W. Winnicott’s Maturational Processes and the Facilitating Environment, Margaret Boyle Spelman's talk attempts to revisit the notion of “being and becoming” as a continuum, from the growth of a boundary during the stage of absolute dependence to the nature of the “distance between” in the stage of relevant dependence. By means of numerous examples, alternating between analytical procedure and maternal engagement, emphasis is placed on the role of the facilitating environment in the maturational processes of both the baby and the patient.
The lecture is delivered in English featuring a projection of the lecturer’s speech in Greek. Psychologist Marianthi Kalatzi will comment on the talk and psychoanalyst (SPF) Thanassis Hatzopoulos will moderate the event.
