University supports American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce Festival

Hellenic American University students and alumni with Dr. Eugenia Arsenis during the filming of The Grecian Captive

Hellenic American University students and alumni will appear in the soon-to-be-premiered film The Grecian Captive. The film will be screened online as part of the “Culture Tribute to Liberty” festival organized by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce for March 4 – 6. The festival includes a series of cultural events, from theater to animation inspired by the Bicentennial of the 1821 Greek Revolution for Independence.

The film is directed by Dr. Eugenia Arsenis, adjunct Professor in the University’s undergraduate General Education program, who adapted for the screen the original play by Mordecai Manuel Noah, “The Grecian Captive or The Fall of Athens.” The work was the first American play written on the Greek War of Independence and play premiered on June 17, 1822 in New York.

This production was created specifically for the Cultural Tribute to Liberty Festival, which has been organized by the Cultural Committee of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) with the coordination of the International Relations for Culture and Ms. Zozo Lidoriki, and the financial support of the Hellenic American University, the Hellenic American Union and Dr. Eugenia Arsenis. The University’s participation was coordinated by the Executive Vice President Dr. Leonidas Tzonis and Dr. Eugenia Arsenis, who both serve as members of the AMCHAM Cultural Committee.
