New Issue of 'Connect' - Winter 2020

The new issue of the alumni newsletter, Connect, is out!

This winter’s issue leads off with news of the Mentoring by Alumni project, which will be launched in Spring 2020. Ifigeneia Roulia from the Alumni Association Executive Committee introduces this initiative, in which alumni volunteers share their professional experience and career insights with alumni and student mentees.

Alumni also form part of the Leadership 2027 Committee recently established by Hellenic American University President Leonidas Phoebus Koskos, who writes about the project in this issue of Connect. The team of young people appointed to the Committee – student and alumni officers, junior managers and coordinators—will serve, in the President’s words, as a kind of think-tank to “brainstorm[] ideas and suggestions for the institution’s new strategic plan [and] review and critique operations, services and community outreach.”

The Faculty Spotlight shines on Dr. Alessandra Sax - Lane, Director of the Psychology Programs, who speaks to Connect about her plans and priorities for the programs and her commitment to holistic education—and who, we learn in the interview, is also an accomplished flautist. This issue’s Alumni Success Stories, on the other hand, focuses on the M.A. in Conference Interpreting, presenting three dynamic young alumnae, who speak about the challenges and rewards of working in this highly competitive field.

The issue is rounded out with a feature on the promising start of the new M.S. in Sales Management program, which was launched this Fall 2019 and a piece on the weekly workouts, soccer and basketball practice now being offered for HAU students and alumni. As always, readers will also find a roundup of news of faculty and alumni accomplishments—from new publications and career moves to personal bests in the Athens Classic Marathon.
