From Hands-On Training to In-House Translator

Iokasti (Christina-Iokasti), a student in the University’s MA in Translation program graduating in June, turned a three-month training placement with ORCO S.A. into an in-house translator position in January 2026, after attending the 2025 Career Fair.

Iokasti says the program provided hands-on experience with professional translation tools and workflows, while improving her time management skills and ability to meet deadlines. Adapting to professional pace and specialized terminology was challenging but invaluable. She adds: “It strengthened my confidence and key soft skills, including communication, attention to detail, and applying feedback.”

And feedback proved crucial. Iokasti highlights her supportive and approachable supervisor: “They gave regular, constructive feedback, helping me understand my mistakes and showing me how to improve, while also acknowledging my strengths and offering positive reinforcement. I felt comfortable asking questions and significantly improved my translation skills.”

She also praises her studies at Hellenic American University: “The academic preparation provided a strong foundation in translation theory, language skills, and research methods, enabling me to adapt quickly and tackle advanced tasks instead of basic concepts.”

Iokasti says the 2025 Career Fair allowed her to connect with companies, attend interviews, and explore real career opportunities, ultimately leading to the training program that launched her career. She adds: “The Career Fair offered valuable insights into interviews, job market competitiveness, and the skills employers seek. It bridges academic studies and the professional world”.

She is grateful to the Career Development Office: “Their support helped me understand the professional environment and employer expectations. They guided me in optimizing my CV and LinkedIn profile, preparing me for job applications and interviews, key to my professional readiness and career planning.”

Iokasti holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and is eager to advance her skills while building a career in translation.
