From Language Studies to Airport Experience

Elisavet, who recently completed the University’s MA in Translation program, secured a position as a Check-in Agent at Athens International Airport with Goldair Handling, a leading ground handling service provider in Southeast Europe, operating across 26 Greek airports.

While working at the airport, which she describes as a “happy place” where people are excited to travel, Elisavet appreciated the collaborative atmosphere, frequent training, and performance-based bonuses. She found the experience both demanding and enlightening. “This job was very useful and insightful as regards the sector of costumer/client service. It taught me to be patient and polite, and to find a balance between having compassion for the passengers and being strict when I have to”, she says, adding: “My background in translation definitely helped me a lot in effectively communicating with them”.

Elisavet is grateful for participating in the 2024 Career Fair, saying it offered valuable opportunities to grow professionally: “This event gives us the opportunity to expand our network, meet with companies in different sectors, and gain experience in being interviewed”.

She also notes the Career Development Office’s (CDO) ongoing support, particularly praising its director’s professionalism: “They do a great job in assisting us in improving our CVs or LinkedIn profiles, giving advice on job interviews, and making announcements about job openings”.

Originally from Rhodes, Elisavet also holds a BA in Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Previously, she had worked as a Special Education Teacher at Rhodes College and is currently working as a hotel receptionist in her hometown.
